A little about me...
My name is Laura. I grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and now live in Kent, UK.
I began sewing when I was young, creating costumes and outfits for my dolls and teddy bears. I learnt my sewing skills from my mum, a very talented costume designer and maker, as well as the Artistic Director of a large ballet school in Melbourne. I started helping her with small projects in 2003, and by 2004 I was making costumes for myself and others. Since then, I have designed and made hundreds of costumes for a variety of occasions, including full-length classical ballets, dance competitions, and professional productions.
Alongside making costumes, I am also a fully qualified dance teacher. I have completed all of my RAD ballet exams, from Pre-Primary to Grade 8 Award, as well as Pre-Elementary to Advanced 2, and hold my ARAD. I have also completed Southern Federation of Dance Tap and Jazz exams from Levels 4–10, and in 2005 I gained my Diploma in Dance Teaching and Management. In addition, I hold Tap and Jazz Teaching Certificates with the Southern Federation of Dance.
I taught ballet for 20 years, working with students from the youngest baby ballet classes through to RAD Advanced 2. In 2023, I decided to hang up my dancing shoes to spend more time with my two young children and focus on my growing business.
I believe my experience as both a dancer and teacher gives me a unique understanding of what a dancer needs in a costume. Customers often comment on how comfortable my designs are — and I truly believe that to perform well, a dancer must feel both comfortable and fabulous in what they are wearing.
